This magnificent Shiraz rug is an authentic expression of Persian textile art, masterfully hand-knotted in the mountainous regions of Fars province, southern Iran. Originally crafted by the nomadic Qashqai tribes and village artisans, Shiraz rugs are renowned for their robustness, vibrant colors, and distinctive geometric designs that tell stories of daily life and ancestral symbols.
The central motif of this piece features a series of large, stepped diamond medallions, intricately carved and enriched with complex geometric patterns. The main field is dominated by a vibrant red color, a classic of this type, while the medallions and border elements showcase a deep navy blue, sky blue accents, emerald green, and light beige details. The design is further enriched by a myriad of scattered small tribal motifs, including stylized animals, plants, stars, and protective symbols, which give the rug a unique energy and a strong connection to nomadic tradition. The presence of abrash, subtle variations in color tones across the field, testifies to the use of natural dyes and artisanal skill, lending the piece an authentic charm and an inimitable chromatic depth.
Made with hand-carded wool, this Shiraz rug boasts a durable weave and a soft, warm surface. The cotton warp ensures stability and longevity, while the high density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm provides remarkable fineness and detail definition for a tribal rug. With a thickness of approximately 1 cm, it offers excellent wear resistance and cozy comfort, ideal for both traditional and contemporary settings, adding a touch of Persian history and culture.
