This magnificent Ardakan rug, hailing from Persia, is a textile masterpiece that embodies the richness and complexity of traditional Persian design. Woven from hand-carded wool, with a cotton warp, it offers a robust texture and a welcoming softness.
The main field, a vibrant ruby red, is dominated by a large, multi-lobed central medallion, richly decorated with stylized floral motifs and delicate leaves. The medallion is outlined by spearhead sections that extend towards the corners, where elements of the central design are echoed. The entire field is finely woven with an intricate scrolling vine design, palmettes, blossoming flowers, and leaves, creating a sense of movement and harmony. Secondary colors like dark blue, sky blue, and ivory illuminate the floral details.
The main border, in a deep midnight blue, features a succession of elegant floral cartouches alternated with continuous patterns of flowering branches, all framed by narrower guard borders with small repetitive designs. The variation in shades, typical of wool dyed with traditional methods, may present slight color shifts known as "abrash," which add character and authenticity to the rug.
With a knot density ranging between 160,000 and 200,000 knots per square meter and a thickness of approximately 1 cm, this Ardakan is an example of artisanal mastery and durability. Its classical aesthetic makes it perfect for enriching spaces with a touch of history and refined beauty.
