This magnificent rug, identified as an original Ardakan, originates from the renowned workshops of Persia. It is a splendid example of Persian craftsmanship, entirely hand-knotted with hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, a combination that guarantees durability and a pleasing softness to the touch.
The design is dominated by an elaborate central medallion, framed by pendants and filled with an intricate interplay of stylized floral patterns. The main field features an all-over design, a profusion of botanical motifs such as palmettes, rosettes, and flowering vines that extend harmoniously. The color palette is vibrant: an intense cardinal red for the field, which contrasts with the deep blue of the medallion and corners, and is enriched with accents in cream, sky blue, and ochre, creating a visually striking effect. The richly decorated borders elegantly frame the rug, echoing and varying the floral themes of the field.
Its knot density, estimated between 160,000 and 200,000 knots per square meter, attests to the high quality of the knotting and the precision of the details. Every knot tells a story of tradition and mastery. The potential presence of abrash, slight color variations due to different dye lots of the wool, is not a defect but a distinctive sign of authenticity and the artisanal natural dyeing process.
An Ardakan like this is not just a furnishing item, but a piece of Persian history and culture that can transform any environment, imparting warmth and a touch of timeless elegance, both in classic and modern settings.
