This magnificent Ardakan rug, originating from Persia, is a splendid example of traditional textile art. Ardakan is renowned for its production of high-quality rugs, characterized by exceptional craftsmanship and timeless appeal.
Made with hand-carded wool, the rug boasts a density of approximately 160,000-200,000 knots per square meter, giving it unparalleled robustness and softness. The cotton warp ensures a solid and durable structure, while the thickness of about 1 cm contributes to a luxurious feel underfoot.
The classic design features a large central diamond-shaped medallion, standing out against an intense red field. The medallion is rich in stylized floral details in shades of dark blue, beige, and light blue. In the four corners, quarter-medallion spandrels complete the harmonious composition, echoing the motifs and colors of the main medallion. The field is densely decorated with an all-over design of intertwining vines, leaves, and colorful flowers, typical of the Persian tradition.
The wide border is a masterpiece in itself, with decorative bands elegantly framing the rug, featuring intricate floral and geometric patterns that alternate in a captivating visual rhythm. The predominant colors, ruby red, midnight blue, and beige, are enhanced by touches of light blue and green, creating a lively contrast and remarkable chromatic depth. The presence of a subtle abrash (tonal variation due to natural wool dyeing) adds character and authenticity to this textile work of art.
An Ardakan rug like this is not just a furnishing element, but a piece that tells stories of ancient traditions and artisanal skills, capable of transforming any environment into a space of refined beauty and warmth.
