This splendid Nadjafabad rug, originating from Persia, is a sublime expression of Persian knotting art. Crafted with hand-carded wool and a cotton warp, it embodies the tradition and mastery of local weavers. Its knot density, between 160,000 and 200,000 knots/sqm, and a thickness of 1.2 cm, attest to its high quality and durability.
The design features a majestic polygonal central medallion, beautifully adorned and framed by four cartouches extending towards the corners. The field is a vibrant red, animated by an elegant all-over design of stylized palmettes, rosettes, and flowering tendrils that gracefully spread. Delicate shades of blue, beige, black, and ivory create a harmonious contrast and visual depth.
The main border, in black, is a riot of complex floral motifs echoing the inner field, while the minor guard borders, with their geometric and vegetal patterns, define and enclose the entire composition. A Nadjafabad rug like this is not merely a piece of furniture, but a textile work of art that brings warmth and an atmosphere of refined elegance to any room.
