This magnificent rug, originating from the renowned Persian region of Ardakan, is a textile work of art that embodies the elegance and richness of traditional Persian design. Crafted with hand-carded wool, the pile offers a soft texture and remarkable durability, showcasing characteristic color variations (abrash). The cotton warp ensures stability and longevity.
The central field is dominated by an intense ruby red, serving as a backdrop for an elaborate all-over design composed of curvilinear vines, stylized palmettes, rosettes, and lotus flowers. At the center stands a majestic almond-shaped medallion with a deep midnight blue background, also enriched with intricate floral compositions in shades of sky blue, cream, and beige, with delicate red accents. This medallion is framed by four corner spandrels that faithfully echo its motif and color palette, creating an effect of great harmony.
The wide main border, in an elegant midnight blue, features a succession of scrolling floral motifs alternating with cartouches and smaller medallions. It is flanked by thinner secondary bands in light blue and red, decorated with minute geometric and vegetal patterns, precisely defining the rug's contours. The density of approximately 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of about 1 cm attest to the meticulous craftsmanship and intrinsic quality of this artifact. An Ardakan rug is a valuable addition to any environment, capable of imparting warmth and an atmosphere of refined beauty.
