This splendid Ardakan rug, originating from the renowned region of Persia, embodies the elegance and richness of ancient Eastern manufacturing tradition. Crafted with hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, it offers a soft and durable texture, a testament to its artisanal skill.
The design is dominated by a magnificent central medallion, richly decorated with stylized palmettes, rosettes, and floral scrolls in various shades of blue and cream, which stands out against an intense red field. The corner spandrels, symmetrical and mirroring the medallion, feature complex floral motifs that extend harmoniously.
The main border is wide and features a succession of cartouches and stylized flowers on a dark blue background, flanked by narrower secondary borders with spiral and leaf motifs, framing the entire composition with grace. The knot density, ranging between 160,000 and 200,000 knots/sqm, ensures exceptional detail definition and great longevity. With a thickness of approximately 1 cm, it is a robust yet comfortable rug underfoot. The presence of slight color variations, known as abrash, adds a touch of authenticity and charm, typical of hand-knotted artifacts.
