The Gorawan rug is an authentic hand-knotted work of art, originating from the mountainous regions of Persia. This splendid example embodies the richness of Persian textile traditions with its bold design and skillful use of color.
At the center of the rug, an imposing geometric star medallion stands out, with crisp, stepped contours that expand into a complex composition. This medallion is masterfully outlined by dark, almost black tones, creating a strong contrast with the yellow, gold, and ocher accents that enrich its interior. The main field is dominated by a vibrant ruby red color, traversed by a myriad of stylized geometric motifs, lozenges, and abstract figures reminiscent of flora and fauna, typical of tribal and Caucasian aesthetics. The side sections and corners of the field feature an explosion of designs on a light, ivory or cream background, which lighten the composition and add depth. The phenomenon of abrash is evident in this rug, with slight color variations in the red field that testify to the natural dyeing of the wool and the uniqueness of each knotting.
The rug is elegantly framed by a main border of dark blue or black, adorned with a sequence of stylized rosettes and smaller geometric motifs, flanked by narrower secondary borders that echo the red and ivory tones, completing the visual harmony.
Made from hand-carded wool, with a cotton warp, this Gorawan ensures exceptional robustness and softness. Its knotting density, ranging between 160,000 and 200,000 knots per square meter, and a thickness of approximately 1 cm, confirm its fine craftsmanship and its ability to withstand time, becoming a focal point in any environment, from classic to contemporary.
