This magnificent example of a Gorawan rug, originating from Persia, embodies the rich tradition of hand-knotted weaving. Crafted with hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, it boasts a density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm, testifying to the weavers' precision and mastery.
The design is dominated by a large geometric central medallion, stylized and multi-starred, which immediately captures the eye. This element is surrounded by a deep ruby red field, punctuated by smaller geometric motifs distributed in an enchanting all-over design. The use of intense colors such as midnight blue, cream, and touches of light blue and ocher creates a vivid contrast and visual harmony. Slight color variations (abrash) can be observed, adding authenticity and character, typical of rugs woven with naturally dyed wools.
The rug's frame consists of a main border featuring "herringbone" or "wolf's tooth" motifs and thinner guard borders that elegantly frame the entire piece. Every symbol and line tells stories of an ancient culture, making this rug not just a furnishing object, but an authentic work of art and a precious piece of Persian history.
