The Gorawan rug presented here is a magnificent example of Persian textile art, renowned for its robustness and distinctive geometric designs.
The heart of the rug features a large and bold central medallion, often star or diamond-shaped, which immediately captures attention. This element is surrounded by a richly decorated field with a myriad of stylized geometric motifs, angular leaves, and abstract floral forms, typical of the tribal style from Iranian Kurdistan. The execution of the details is finely crafted, with a notable expression of abrash that adds depth and character.
The color palette is dominated by warm reds, often terracotta or rust, balanced by deep dark blues (almost black) and a bright cream or ivory color that enhances the contrasts. The robust border frames the entire composition with repeated stylized rosette patterns and geometric shapes, completing the harmony of the design.
Made with high-quality hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, this Gorawan guarantees exceptional strength and remarkable longevity. Its knot density (between 160,000 and 200,000 knots/sqm) attests to the meticulous artisanal craftsmanship, giving it a robust texture and excellent color rendition. With a thickness of 1 cm, it offers a great tactile feel and improved acoustics, making it ideal for any setting, from classic to modern.
