This splendid Ardakan rug, originating from Persia, embodies the richness and tradition of oriental knotting art. Crafted from hand-carded wool, it features a remarkable knot density ranging between 160,000 and 200,000 knots per square meter, testifying to its high quality craftsmanship. The cotton warp ensures stability and durability, while the 1 cm thickness provides pleasant robustness.
The design is a classic example of the Persian repertoire, characterized by a majestic central medallion dominating the brick red field. This medallion is richly decorated with stylized floral motifs and delicate leaves, surrounded by an elaborate all-over pattern of arabesques and palmettes on a scarlet background. The corners feature quarter-medallion motifs, which blend harmoniously with the central composition.
The color palette is vibrant and sophisticated, with an intense brick red for the field, creating a captivating contrast with the midnight blue of the medallion and main border. Details in beige, light blue, and ochre add depth and vibrancy to the design. Every detail is executed with precision, sometimes with slight color variations (abrash) that add character and uniqueness to the artifact. This Ardakan is a textile work of art, perfect for enriching any environment with a touch of history and refined beauty.
