This textile work of art is a magnificent Persian Tabriz rug, renowned for its excellent quality and the timeless elegance of its designs. Originating from the historic city of Tabriz in Persia, this rug is a sublime example of hand-knotted craftsmanship.
Made from high-quality hand-carded wool on a sturdy cotton warp, it features a dense and durable pile with a density of 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm, ensuring its longevity and softness to the touch. The vibrant colors are achieved with natural dyes, which may show slight chromatic variations (abrash) giving the rug a unique and authentic character.
The design is dominated by a majestic polychrome central medallion, in shades of dark blue with ivory details, set against a terracotta red field. Around the medallion, the field is finely decorated with an all-over design of stylized floral motifs, such as palmettes, rosettes, and sinuous arabesques, harmoniously filling every space. The quarter-medallion corners echo the colors and motifs of the center, creating a balanced symmetry.
The main border, in an intense dark blue, is adorned with a sequence of blossoms and cartouches, flanked by narrow secondary borders that enclose and enhance the central field.
