This magnificent Ardakan rug, hailing from the renowned Persian region, embodies the richness and elegance of ancient textile tradition. Crafted with hand-carded wool on a cotton warp, it features a knot density ranging from 160,000 to 200,000 knots per square meter, ensuring remarkable durability and a pleasant surface to the touch, with a thickness of approximately 1 cm.
The design is dominated by a majestic central medallion, beautifully elaborated in dark blue and ivory tones, standing out against a vibrant scarlet red main field. The medallion is surrounded by a profusion of stylized floral motifs, such as palmettes, rosettes, and winding tendrils, which fill the field in a harmonious and refined pattern. The field's corners elegantly echo the medallion's motifs, creating visual continuity.
The border consists of multiple bands, with a prominent dark blue main stripe, also decorated with floral motifs and cartouches. Narrower secondary borders, with geometric and floral designs in contrasting colors, frame the whole, adding depth and complexity to the design. The subtle color variations, known as abrash, attest to the use of natural dyes and the craftsmanship of the weaving process, giving each rug a unique and authentic character.
An Ardakan is more than just a rug; it is a piece of history and culture, capable of transforming any environment into a space of refined beauty and warmth.
