This magnificent rug hails from the renowned region of Ardakan in Persia, a land with an ancient manufacturing tradition. Crafted with hand-carded wool for the pile and a cotton warp, it features a robust and detailed weave, typical of its origin.
The design is a classic Lachak-Toranj, characterized by an imposing central medallion (toranj) richly adorned with stylized floral motifs, flanked by four corner spandrels (lachak) that echo the medallion's design. The field is densely decorated with an intricate floral pattern of intertwining branches, palmettes, rosettes, and small flowers, creating a "paradise garden" effect. The main border, in chromatic contrast, showcases a succession of cartouches and flowers.
The color palette is vibrant and harmonious: the field is dominated by an intense ruby red, while the border and main medallion elements are in midnight blue. Accents of cream, light blue, and ochre illuminate the floral details, adding depth and luster. A density of approximately 160,000-200,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of about 1 cm attest to the high quality and durability of this piece.
An Ardakan is a work of art that brings the elegance and richness of Persian culture into any room, creating a warm and refined atmosphere.
