This fascinating Bidjar runner originates from the mountainous regions of Persia, renowned for its exceptional durability and artisan craftsmanship. Bidjars are celebrated for their extremely compact and resilient structure, a result of a very tight knotting technique that makes the rug almost indestructible over time.
Made with high-quality hand-spun wool and a sturdy cotton warp, this runner boasts a density of approximately 400,000-450,000 knots/sqm and a thickness of 1.4 cm, ensuring unparalleled treadability and excellent thermal insulation. The use of hand-spun wool gives the pile a natural luster and a rich texture, enhancing the depth of colors.
The design is characterized by a succession of large central hexagonal or diamond-shaped medallions, surrounded by a densely decorated field with stylized floral motifs, often traceable to the classic Herati design. The borders further elaborate the composition with a series of "boteh" or geometric motifs.
The color palette is warm and inviting, with predominant shades of terracotta red, burgundy, dark brown, cream, and beige, enriched by accents of deep blue and sage green that add vibrancy to the overall composition. The potential presence of abrash (natural color variations) is a testament to the authenticity and artisanal processing with natural dyes.
A Bidjar runner is not just a piece of furniture, but a piece of history and tradition that brings with it the atmosphere and warmth of ancient Persia, perfect for enriching hallways, entrances, or living spaces with a touch of timeless elegance.
